Leadership Retreat

We are business people creating a tribe. Is retreat the word we use to describe a day or two of planning?

Definition of  a “leaders” retreat

  1. 1a(1) :  an act or process of withdrawing especially from what is difficult, dangerous, or disagreeable (2) :  the process of receding from a position or state attained the retreat of a glacier –
  2.  (1) :  the usually forced withdrawal of troops from an enemy or from an advanced position (2)  2:  a place of privacy or safety :  refuge
  3. a period of group withdrawal for prayer, meditation, study, or instruction under a director

These are horrible words to describe our desire to grow

It is suggested  pullback, pullout, recession, retirement, withdrawalwords be used instead of retreat.

Should we really retreat?

  • Are we running away?
  • Are we in a dangerous environment?
  • Are we in need of meditating?
  • Are we withdrawing from our life, our business and our environment?
  • We should be using the antonyms:   advance, advancement
  1. to accelerate the growth or progress of advance a cause
  2. to bring or move forward advance a pawn

I  choose not to retreat – As a leader, I choose to advance – to grow –  to progress.

And I think it is a really, really, good idea to spend time in a different location for a day or two, to think,  to think deeply and to plan your next advance. Spending time working on your business and tribe gathering is more important than spending time working in your business.
