A soul should always stand ajar, ready to welcome the ecstatic experience…..  Emily Dickinson

I love the thought of keeping my soul open. I’m not too much of a doer in the keeping my soul open, however.  I’ve had opportunities to keep my soul open, which I thought I was doing,  and have had the craziest people walk in. These were not exactly ecstatic experiences with those people.  What exactly does standing a jar mean?  Today for me it means, to be open to the possibilities, to be open minded and to make very conscious decisions about who welcome in the door to my soul.

As Emily Dickinson says: A soul should always stand ajar.  She didn’t say to stand  wide open. She didn’t say let the entire marching band with all its instruments and noise can come traipsing through.  I think  by using the word “ajar”, she meant that there needs to be vigilance.

I’m still learning about vigilance.  Learning about making conscious decisions.  And keeping my soul ajar for the ecstatic experiences that may wander in.  Looking forward to those. Clinton Mill 01
