Goals are great, but they’re not the whole story. Saying “I want to be more organized” is a start—but it’s a destination without a roadmap. Instead, try this: “I’m the kind of person who creates clarity.”
See the shift?
You’re no longer chasing a finish line. You’re becoming someone new.
This identity-based approach transforms scattered to-do lists into purposeful action. Instead of trying harder, you simply ask: What would a clear, organized person do right now?
That mindset leads to real, lasting change—not just a temporary push fueled by guilt or pressure.
The truth is, habits stick when they’re tied to who you believe you are. So skip the goal for now.
Build the identity.
Who do you want to become? Write down one identity you’re stepping into—and take one small action today to live like it’s already true.

I like that approach!
I was gonna say “I want to be more organized” is not a bad goal, just it isn’t measurable. How much more organized do I have to be in order to have reached my goal?
A good reminder. When I was a marketing manager, the most important thing I did for goals was to add strategies and tactics. I think if you are not detailed in how you plan to accomplish your goal, you won’t get it started, much less finished.
Love that I can easily tie this in to what I want to do this year. I actually posted about my word of the year, the intentions behind it and all. With your Identity post, it helps give me another layer to look from. Thank you!
Our posts today have very similar themes. I learned a long time ago that I am in control of my identity.
What a great idea, Linda! I’m going to be pondering that this afternoon.
