Leaders who speak well inspire well
Ever noticed how some leaders can turn a Monday meeting into a motivational moment while others drain the room faster than bad fluorescent lighting? Great communication is leadership. The right words can energize your team, clarify the goal, and remind everyone why their work matters.
Start by sharing your vision clearly. Paint the big picture so every team member can see where they fit. Then, recognize effort design projects thrive on long hours and creative problem-solving, and everyone wants to know their contribution is seen and valued.
Finally, tell stories. Inspiration doesn’t come from charts it comes from meaning. Share the “why” behind the work: how a design improves lives, transforms spaces, or uplifts communities. Storytelling connects hearts before it directs hands.
Remember, cluttered communication like cluttered design creates confusion. (And no one’s motivated by mixed messages or messy mood boards.) Speak with purpose, and you’ll lead with power.

Very good suggestions. When people can clearly see their role in the success of the team, they are empowered. As a director I wrote grant reports and know how powerful stories are to share along with the data.
Thank you Cheryl
Speak with Purpose!!! We all need to remember this. So often, you end up in meetings with leaders that seem pointless. I honestly can’t count the number of meetings I have attended and left saying that is time I will never get back. They go through the motions but never take time to put thought into why a meeting was necessary or how to take it as an opportunity to lead the team.
A world without most meetings – a few are still needed Thank you, Kim
