Waiting for the green light to lead?
Sometimes the only permission you need… is your own.
Let this post be your gentle nudge. 💡
Many of us hold back, thinking leadership only begins with a title or a formal invitation. But more often, leadership shows up in the quiet choice to take initiative—to lean in, offer support, or take responsibility, even when it’s not officially “yours.” It’s not about overstepping—it’s about stepping up when it matters.
Is there a place in your work or life where you’ve been waiting—hoping someone else would make the first move? Consider this your gentle nudge: What’s one small action you can take today to shift from waiting to leading?

Dinner Conversation
Who speaks first at a dinner? You do! The best way to start a conversation with your table mate is for you to ask questions. But before you sit down, there may be a standing for pre-dinner drinks and conversation. Any question, almost, will do. For starters for that...

It wasn’t my fault!
It wasn’t my fault! It wasn’t my fault the computer network went down. It wasn’t my fault that I started the post after 8:00 pm and had to be up at 5:00 am the next day. It wasn’t my fault….it wasn’t my fault. I’ve had to learn that everything is my...
How to be remembered
How to be remembered You’ve been invited to a professional dinner with other professionals. What do you talk about? What, who, where, when or how is the conversation going to center around? You have a million questions but you are stuck on “What am I going to say?”...
I fell off the wagon
I fell off the wagon. What happened? A combination of things happened, the first day I forgot, got too busy the next, was interrupted by more important work and on and on. Yes, I know that one day at a time works. It is part of the 12 step programs but this is a...
Please Pass the Potatoes
Please pass the potatoes! As you might guess, business etiquette is one of my favorite topics. It might make or break an opportunity lurking in the mind of a guest. That opportunity may be the person sitting next to you at a picnic table in the home of a mutual...

Such good encouragement! Thank you!
I don’t like to lead but being the oldest have no choice but lead now that my mother has passed. Having no choice is a great motivator. 🙂

Sometimes when we become the leader we learn about our own strengths and step into a great place. You’ve got this!
I just gave up a leadership position. For the past 4 years I facilitated a grief support group for widows and widowers. It’s been something I’ve been thinking about for about six months. I did mention it to someone who I thought might take over, but she didn’t bite. So, one day I came into the group and just said that I’m done. Long story short… three people stepped up to take over…including the one I talked to about this six months ago. Funny, it took three people to take over the job I did for close to four years!
Now, I’m not looking for a leadership situation. I’m looking to just relax and maybe sometime in the future I’ll look for something new.

It’s really amazing how that works. I too walked away from an important leadership position for me. Near and dear to my heart but toooooo much time. I was begged, hounded and cajoiled for 6 months said yes then after attending one too many long meetings – I resigned the position and the organization. I was sad and grieving about it but I had donated enough. Amazing within 3 days they had a new president. It was time for that season of my life to change.
Great reminder that leadership isn’t about waiting for a formal title, but about stepping up when the moment calls for it. It’s all about taking initiative and making a difference, no matter where you are.
